Mid-season repairing raspberries Bow to Kazakov - appearance
Choosing a variety of raspberries for planting on their site, the gardener wants to get a high yield of large berries at minimal cost. Even better, they ripen over a long period of time, giving you the opportunity to enjoy fresh fruits for as long as possible. All these requirements are fully met by the novelty of domestic selection, which has already managed to earn more than one favorable review - the remont raspberry Poklon Kazakova, which will be discussed.
Remontant mid-season raspberries Bow to Kazakov
Repair raspberries differ from the usual ability to produce not one but two crops per season, but at the same time, as a rule, fewer fruits ripen on the bush, and the crops leave much to be desired. In addition, if for the second time the bush begins to bear fruit in the fall, before the onset of cold weather the berries often remain unripe. In this regard, Bow to Kozakov can safely be called a real gift for any gardener.
Did you know? Ivan Vasilievich Kazakov is a Soviet breeder who, since the 70s of the 20th century, specialized in the cultivation of remont raspberries and created more than 2 dozen varieties of it. It is interesting that associates discouraged the scientist from useless occupation, believing that the second crop of berries still did not have time to ripen in the conditions of a short summer in the middle lane, but already in the 90s Kazakov was able to successfully break this stereotype.
Named in honor of the famous scientist, the variety was bred several years ago at the All-Russian Institute for Horticulture and Nursery with the efforts of specialists from the Kokinsky stronghold, which is part of the Bryansk State Agrarian University, where I.V.Kazakov worked until his death (2011). . The basis for the creation of the variety was laid on early ripe remont raspberry Eurasia, obliged, as you might guess, by its appearance to the same Ivan Kazakov.
In the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, a new variety was included in 2017 and, thanks to its amazing ability to adapt to different climatic conditions, it is recommended for cultivation practically throughout Russia.
Appearance of the bush, size and type of berries (fruiting time)
In terms of habitus (appearance), the bow to Kazakov is an erect, rather high, up to 170-200 cm, bush with powerful and well-branched shoots, which on one plant can form up to ten pieces. Branches cover rare and small, but rather dense spikes, slightly bent down.
The leaves are dark green, large and twisted, sometimes completely hide a ripening crop behind their plates, due to which, looking at the plant, it seems that there are no berries on it at all.
The berries are large in size (the average weight of one fruit varies between 5–7 g, but individual specimens can reach 10 g or even more), roundish, color red, ruby. Taste characteristics are very high: the taste is balanced, sweet with sourness, the flesh is dense, but at the same time extremely juicy, the aroma is pronounced.
From the point of view of chemical composition, this raspberry is an ideal combination of sugar and solids, in particular, it contains:
- saccharides - 4.7%;
- acids - 1.4%;
- Vitamin C - 0.48%.
In terms of maturity, the bow to Kazakov can be attributed to mid-season. According to the description, the bush begins to form the first crop around mid-August (later than such well-known repairing varieties as Snezhet or Sorceress), but the second fruiting wave lasts almost to the coldest and, importantly, in the climatic conditions of the middle part of the European part of the Russian Federation , the last berries have time to ripen almost 100%.
Overall yields are satisfactory: from 1 sq.m it is possible to collect no more than 1.75 kg of fruits (For example, we note that the mentioned Sorceress gives an average of 1.8–2.2 kg from the same area).
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
- Over its short history, raspberries Poklon Kazakova has already managed to fall in love with many gardeners who note the following merits of the variety:
- wide area of zoning;
- rapid growth and accelerated shoot formation;
- high immunity to diseases and pests, allowing you to grow a crop using the method of organic farming (without the use of potent pesticides);
- unpretentiousness, drought resistance and heat resistance;
- easy rooting, no problems with planting and transplanting;
- large-fruited, stably maintained throughout the entire period of fruiting (lack of tendency to frizzle berries);
- beautiful appearance and good taste of fruits;
- low yield losses due to visual hiding of berries behind leaves (inaccessibility to birds);
- tight fit of the berry to the stalk, lack of crumbling;
- friendly and prolonged fruiting, full ripening of the second crop, even in the conditions of a short summer;
- dense pulp structure, providing the berry with a good shelf life and suitability for long transportation.
Important! Despite the numerous and obvious advantages, raspberries Poklon Kazakova is practically not used for growing on large areas, as professional farmers prefer more productive varieties to her.
- Among some of the disadvantages of the variety are:
- the need for careful pruning and digging of the beds due to too intensive bush growth;
- average indicators of frost resistance;
- the density of thorns, making the bush prickly and complicating the process of caring for it;
- exactingness to soil composition;
- relatively low productivity.
Raspberry - the culture as a whole is unpretentious, however, its repairing varieties, including Poklon Kazakov, require a little more attention from the gardener to themselves, otherwise you will not be able to collect two full crops.
A place for planting a bush should meet several important requirements:
- Good lighting. In partial shade, the plant can develop, but the berries will form more slowly, and for remont raspberries, this means the loss of part of the fruits that do not have time to gain color and sweetness before the fall of the cold.
- Protection against wind and draft. Delicate leaves and ovaries are very easily damaged from contact with the trellis and with each other during sudden gusts of wind.
- Low groundwater penetration. Raspberry is distinguished by a superficial root system, so in a swampy soil the bush feels uncomfortable. The optimum depth of water passage under the ground should be 150 cm. If this parameter is not maintained, the bush should be planted on a high bed or on a ridge, and also provide reliable drainage.
- Light, loose and humus-rich soil. Raspberry is less demanding on soil acidity than on its structure, but an acidic and neutral environment is much more suitable for plants than alkaline. To increase the acidity of the soil during planting, the nutrient substrate must be diluted with peat, ash, dolomite flour or chopped green mass of freshly mowed siderates. If the soil is clayey and heavy, coarse river sand or sphagnum should also be added to it.
When choosing a place to place a raspberry, it is also important to consider which plants were grown on it before.
Correct crop rotation - An indispensable condition for obtaining a good crop without the use of growth stimulants and other chemical tricks incompatible with organic farming. With regard to raspberries, crop rotation rules are as follows:
|Good predecessors||Bad predecessors|
Shrubs should not be planted next to blackberries, strawberries and strawberries, which have common enemies with raspberries, as well as fruit trees that will obscure the bushes. Good plants are any plants with a strong and spicy smell (onions, garlic, marigolds, petunias, peonies, etc.), they will serve as a natural protection against pests.
Landing and care
For raspberry planting, the off-season is usually chosen - early spring or mid-autumn, although unpretentious and hardy bushes of Poklona Kazakova can be planted in the summer. Traditionally, a perennial plant takes root better if it is planted in the fall, then its root system will have time to adapt in a new place, "not being distracted" by maintaining active growth of green mass that begins in spring. But the best option also depends on the climatic conditions in which the landing is made.
Important! In the northern regions, as well as in the middle lane, it is recommended that Kazakov be landed at the end of March — early April, until the awakening of the kidneys. In the south, the preferred time is the end of September. — the middle and even the end of October, when new shoots are no longer formed, but at least 2-3 weeks remain before frosts.
The preparation of the site for planting raspberries begins in advance and includes the removal of debris and residues of any vegetation, digging and loosening the soil. At the same time, organic fertilizers are introduced into the ground in the form of fresh manure, while compost and rotted manure can be added to the nutrient soil mixture immediately before planting.
It is best to plant a well-growing raspberry Poklon Kazakova in a territory carefully fenced around the perimeter, and the fence (slate, ruberoid, etc.) should be dug into the ground by at least 50 cm, otherwise the root shoot will soon capture the entire garden. The distance between neighboring plants should be 70–80 cm, and between rows, if there are a lot of bushes, not less than 1–1.5 m.
The bush planting depth directly depends on the soil structure: the bush should not be buried in heavy soil, the root neck should remain at the same level with the surface of the earth. But if the soil is light enough, the immersion of the root neck by 15–20 mm is allowed. Based on this rule, you should dig out the landing pits. On average, their size is usually 40x40x40 cm. The earth removed from the pit must be fertilized before further use.
To do this, add to it:
- double superphosphate - 100 g;
- potassium salt (or wood ash) - 30-50 g;
- compost or rotted manure (if it has not been applied to the soil since the fall) - approximately 50% of the total land.
Further care of the variety The bow to Kazakov involves regular (not frequent, but plentiful) watering, weeding and loosening of the soil, as well as top dressing. Fertilizers should be applied 2-3 times during the season simultaneously with watering or immediately after it.
Important! Nitrogen fertilizers need to be applied only in the spring, and potash and phosphorus can be used in the summer and autumn.
To do this, you can use (dosage is based on 1 square meter of raspberry):
- potassium sulfate - 20–40 g;
- superphosphate - 50–80 g;
- carbamide - 20–40 g;
- nitroammofosku (replaces all three of the above drugs) - 50-100 g.
As an organic top dressing, a mullein diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10 is well suited. In spring and autumn, you can make compost or rotted manure for digging.
Pest and Disease Control
Repairing raspberry varieties, bred by I.V.Kazakov and his followers, are distinguished by a very high immunity to diseases and pests. Therefore, the agricultural technology of growing such plants can be carried out without the use of toxic pesticides. However, to combat the raspberry beetle (the most dangerous raspberry pest) and some other parasites, as well as various fungal infections, it is advisable to treat the bush with a “mild” insecticide and fungicide 2-3 times during the spring.
The first spraying is carried out before the buds open, the second - after flowering and, if necessary, immediately after flowering, you can process the bush for the third time. Good insecticidal effect with low toxicity is shown by the preparations: “Calypso”, “Inta-Vir”, “Karate” or “Kinmix”.To prevent fungal infections, you can use iron or copper sulfate, or Bordeaux mixture. Relatively safe for the environment are also such means as Vincit, Fundazol, Tecto, Agrocyt.
Did you know? Locusts can rightfully be called the most flawed pest of fields. This, like a grasshopper, insect is able to move at a speed of 16 km / h, without landing it overcomes distances of up to 300 km, and in the place where the flock appears, there are practically no living plants.
Another option for combating diseases and pests is the use of modern biological products. They are considered completely safe and can be used even during the ripening period. However, such tools have a significant drawback - a relatively low efficiency. For this reason, it is important to carry out the treatment only for preventive purposes or at the very early stages of the lesion, and at the same time repeat the procedure 3-4 times on average (depending on the specific problem and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions).
Among the most common biological products used to process raspberries are:
- "Generous Garden";
- "Gamair" and many others. other
Removable raspberries Bow to Kazakov needs a thorough garter. Usually, the trellis method is used for this - the installation of two vertical supports along the edges of each row, between which horizontal crossbars of wire, thin reinforcement or other durable material are then stretched.
Without a garter to such crossbars, tall shoots begin to slope to the ground, and under the weight of large berries they can even break. In addition, by tying each branch to the crossbar, the gardener gets the opportunity to orient the shoots so that they are lit as evenly as possible.The lower crossbar should be installed at a height of about 50 cm above ground level, the subsequent ones are mounted as necessary with a “step” of about 30–40 cm, so the finished structure usually includes from three to five horizontal supports.
Pruning and wintering
Many gardeners recommend at the stage of preparing the bush for winter to completely mow its aerial part. In this case, next year, all berries will ripen only on annual shoots, but the plant is not threatened by freezing of fruit buds during severe cold.
There is an alternative method of autumn pruning: only two-year-old shoots are removed, and the young saplings are retained. This method also has a right to exist, since the repairing raspberry varieties, unlike ordinary ones, form fruits on both annual and biennial branches.
However, if the aerial part of the bush is decided to be left for the winter, it must be carefully prepared: bend to the ground and fasten, and then cover with light and well-permeable material. In regions where enough snow falls in winter, the bush does not need shelter; a snowdrift will perfectly play this role for it. The gardener only needs to gather as much snow as possible for the plant and then make sure that no ice crust forms on it, under which the branches begin to heat up.
After removing the shelter in the spring, the bush is carefully inspected and additional sanitary pruning is carried out, suggesting the removal of dead or damaged shoots. The bow to Kazakov has good frost resistance, therefore, with proper preparation, the winter plant usually tolerates pretty well. Problems can arise only if the temperature drops below -25 ° C, sudden changes in heat and cold, as well as the complete absence of snow when the ground freezes much deeper.
Harvesting and transportation
Gardeners begin to collect raspberries. Bow to Kazakova in August and then, after a short break, continue until the colds. The first crop should be removed as quickly as possible - in this case, the bush receives an additional incentive for the rapid laying of new ovaries.
The dense structure of the berries does not allow them to crumble ahead of time, and, in addition, such a crop can be transported and stored in the refrigerator for at least two weeks without loss. True, for this you need to fulfill an important condition: you should wash raspberries only before use, otherwise it will “flow” - let the juice flow and lose its shape.
Did you know? There is a whole line of gourmet sparkling wines with raspberry flavor, and they are very expensive compared to the usual low-alcohol “pop”. It is interesting that French Champagne itself produces similar products, as examples of such drinks are Billecart-Salmon, Deutz, Ruinart, Champagne Lamiable - marked “Brut Rose”.
Of the berries that still suffered a little during the collection or transportation, you can prepare a delicious liquor, homemade wine or an exquisite fruit cocktail. Despite the very short history of its existence, raspberries Poklon Kazakova has already managed to win many admirers among gardeners.
The main advantage of the variety is its excellent adaptability to various climatic conditions, allowing it to grow almost throughout Russia, without fear that the berries of the second crop will not have time to ripen before the onset of cold weather. In addition, unlike most varieties of remont raspberries, Poklon Kazakov is distinguished by stable large-fruited and, with excellent taste, good density and stubbornness, which ensures long-term storage of the crop and its universal purpose.
Bow to Kazakov the first year of fruiting - the berry is large muffled raspberry cone-shaped, fruiting is plentiful. Taste at the level of Orange Miracle (PC, in my opinion, the only variety of rem. Raspberries that can compete in taste with OCh).
